I am building a gantry style CNC it is all aluminum with a 36''x24'' work surface the type of work will be wood and aluminum sheet metal and the odd aluminum plate 1/4'' milling work i will have coolant for that aplication
My question is wat tipe of steper should i spec out
Voltage , unipolar ,bipolar vextra ,Amperage degrees, and steps this is confusing because there are so many out ther and i want something strong and easy to configure or replace I a good metal worker but the electronics !!!!

    Maybe something like these:

Use Geckos, wired bipolar parallel at around 30V.

If this is in your budget, you'll get quite a bit of power for a very reasonable price. You could probably get away with a little less power, but you can never have too much power either.

If you look at the thread for InventIt 's router, he uses these motors and can get over 300ipm with 1/2-10 5 start acme screws. If I ever finish my first router, I plan on using those motors for my next one.

Here's the link to InventIt's thread:

Instead of a single thread wrapping around the screw 10 times per inch, there are 5 seperate threads that wrap 2 times per inch. So you still have 10 threads per inch, but you only have to turn the screw 2 times to move one inch. Screw with multiple starts are more efficient than single start screws, sort of midway between single start and ballscrews.
