I am having a problem with drawings in corel.I am taking a few dxf files and trying to use parts of these drawing to make a wildlife scene.When i start deleting lots of line segments sometimes the program will want to shut down giving me a message(control a.r.m.) or the dxf file i created will not open in sheetcam.I do not know what i am doing wrong.I do notice that these dxf files that won't open in sheetcam are huge.I do feel something is going wrong because the files are taking up way to much space(memory).Kinda lost at the moment.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First make sure you have SR1 patch applied to Ver 12. It gets rid of a lot of bugs that cause the shutdowns. You need to think in terms of closed objects rather than lines. To build a wildlife scene out of clipart you first need clipart where 1. The objects don't overlap, 2. there are closed chains of nodes. If you can't select and fill an object in CorelDraw it's not a closed object. You need to learn to use the Weld and Trim features in Corel so you can take multiple descreet objects and "weld" them together to make one big object. Download some of the sample CDR files off my CandCNCSupport Yahoo Group site in the Files/Artwork folder. I have both combined and separated types of drawings.

DXF exports from Corel segment the curves into hundreds of tiny line segments. That causes the files to be huge.

Try exporting the finished files as HPGL (PLT) exports and bring them into SheetCAM that way. They at least will have more evenly spaced segments.

It maybe SP1 (Service Pack) or (Service Release). It's getting harder to find now that X3 has been out. Later releases of Ver 12 have the SP built in. You should be able to find it on the Corel website but they keep changing locations so I can't give you a specific URL. It's free if you can find it, but it will force you to get your original install disk to complete so be ready!

Open CorelDraw and the Help/About and look at your version. Should be 12.0.0.536 or later. One of the major cures was to fix the resolution bug in the HPGL export. Ver 10, 11 and early 12 exported HPGL files with course resolution even when you set it to .001. Other things that caused the automatic save and shutdown were fixed. Haven't found too many things that will break it now.
