What expectations do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?

We expect umati to be an open platform, on which widely interoperable solutions are built.
OPC UA provides the basis for interoperability by defining "how" machines talk to each other. Companion specifications are building on top of that by defining "what" is talked about. They are essential for truly interoperable solutions. But companion specifications, by definition, focus on specific industry areas and use-cases. There are still questions and scenarios in industrial applications that are worth a look on a wider scale as they occur over and over again - umati provides a big opportunity for that.
We look forward to joining an expert network built around umati and OPC UA. Our expectation of the partnership is better visibility for our service offerings, which encompass custom OPC UA/HMI/IIoT applications, support services for the open62541 OPC UA stack as well as consulting and training offerings.
basysKom has a strong commitment and long history in Open Source software. We are actively contributing to those projects strategic to us. We are looking forward to providing added value to the umati organization.

What advantages does umati offer your company and your customers?

Our focus is "application development", umati will reduce integration effort by providing widely used standardized interfaces. This allows us to concentrate on smart connected applications, modern HMI development and innovations like Machine Learning.

How do you evaluate the expansion of the umati initiative to the entire mechanical engineering industry?

The expansion is a chance to create a common style for companion specifications. In addition, it creates the opportunity to identify and extract industry-wide commonalities into base companion specifications, which are used as building blocks for higher level companion specifications. We embrace the overall development, we see the challenges but also the opportunities. Our hope is that umati will foster a family of high-quality companion specifications.

basysKom GmbH is a software engineering services provider focusing on technical applications. Our customers come from mechanical engineering, manufacturing, process control, and other areas. Our strength is the development of user interfaces, smart connected devices and cloud applications. OPC UA completes the profile.

basysKom is involved in several Open Source OPC UA communities. In 2015, basysKom initiated Qt OPC UA, which provides an OPC UA client for the Qt framework. Qt OPC UA became an official part of Qt in 2017. open62541 is a very active Open Source project implementing a high-quality OPC UA stack that we often use in our projects. We contribute to this project as well. We are official Commercial Support partner of the open62541 project.
