P2X in operation: eKerosene for aviation
Power-to-X is gaining more and more ground in politics, economy, society and also in the media. And, Power-to-X is arriving more and more in practice.
Here is another example: eKerosene for aviation
Green hydrogen is to help make aviation climate-neutral. A major step in this direction is being taken by the world's first plant for the production of CO2-neutral eKerosene well above laboratory scale. It was commissioned in Werlte in Lower Saxony at the beginning of October 2021.
The synthetic crude oil production plant, which is the feedstock for the production of climate-neutral aviation-approved kerosene, produces the synthetic crude oil using Fischer-Tropsch synthesis from carbon monoxide (CO, derived from CO2) and hydrogen. The CO2 comes from biogas (waste recycling) or is extracted from the ambient air with the help of a specially installed direct air capture module. The electrical energy of 2.5 MW is supplied by additional wind turbines in the surrounding area. Per year, the plant will produce about 350 tons of synthetic crude oil and save more than 1000 tons of CO2 emissions. The owner and operator of the plant is atmosfair's sister company Solarbelt FairFuel gGmbH. Siemens Energy is responsible for the complete solution to provide hydrogen for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The automation technology for the entire power-to-kerosene plant comes from Siemens AG. INERATEC supplied the innovative synthesis unit that converts CO2 and hydrogen into sustainable synthetic crude oil, which is then refined into e-kerosene.
Here you can find a video of the plant.
