Dialogue on the future of the automobile industry

The automotive industry and its suppliers are in a deep crisis, which is also severely affecting the mechanical and plant engineering sector. In order to overcome this crisis, politicians must now quickly provide clarity, demands a position paper that the VDMA Power-to-X for Applications has now presented and in which it advocates a variety of future drive solutions in Europe.
According to the position paper, the aim must be to avoid CO2 emissions in the transport sector. In addition to electromobility, hybrid drives and CO2-neutral fuels (CNF) should also be permitted. There is a real danger today that the automotive industry will completely stop developing combustion engines in Europe. The tank-to-wheel approach in fleet regulation does not allow for sustainable fuels and only electric mobility as a solution. In a few years, however, the use of imported energy could prove to be a cost-effective and economically efficient solution in the transport sector.
