Review CO2 standards for the automotive sector at an early stage!

Review the regulations for CO2 emission standards in the automotive sector at an early stage, create incentives to promote the acceptance of clean vehicles among fleet operators and involve all stakeholders in the dialog: This is what 21 associations are now calling for in a joint appeal. According to the signatories, swift political action is also required to achieve the decarbonization of road transport. The current European legal framework hinders investment. The forthcoming EU action plan should ensure that all technologies for decarbonizing the transport sector can compete on a level playing field.
Currently, the lack of technological neutrality in the regulations for light and heavy-duty vehicles restricts the choice of technologies for achieving CO2 reduction targets. Mario Draghi's report on competitiveness therefore also calls for a return to technological neutrality in the EU automotive sector. The associations emphasize that several complementary solutions are needed to decarbonize transport, including sustainable, low-carbon and renewable fuels. An early revision of the CO2 standards should therefore follow a technology-open approach and recognize the contribution of these fuels to the CO2 reduction targets. Read the full statement here
