OPC UA in hydrogen production


Mechanical engineering sees itself as an enabler of the future, and the hydrogen economy is definitely one of them. Advancing it is a major task with many different facets, including OPC UA, the global language of production. In the digital production world, machines from different manufacturers must be able to communicate with each other. This requires uniform standards, which the VDMA is playing a key role in developing with the OPC UA Companion Specifications. OPC UA is now also to be introduced for electrolysers.
Members of the OPC Foundation and VDMA Power-to-X for Applications met in Frankfurt for the kick-off event of the OPC UA Companion Specification Hydrogen Electrolyzer. The scope and communication plan were defined and use cases were collected. In future, the working meetings will be organized as online meetings with approximately one meeting per month. The focus of the working groups: Developing an OPC UA information model for the seamless integration of electrolyzers, reducing the integration effort, ensuring compatibility with MTP VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658 guidelines.
