PFAS ban: participate in the ECHA consultation
Since March 22, 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has been running a public consultation on the restriction of perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). The consultation ends on September 25, 2023. The EU's planned ban on the entire PFAS group of substances would endanger many industrial processes, especially the technologies of the energy transition. Many entrepreneurs from the mechanical and plant engineering sector are calling for the ban to be halted and for the substances to be considered in a differentiated manner. The VDMA has published a press release, a position paper and many more on thison this:
If you or your company are affected, you should definitely participate in ECHA's public consultation. Explain where your company is specifically affected and name the fields of application that will no longer function under the PFAS restriction. This is the only way to reflect the broad scope of the mechanical and plant engineering sector that will be affected. Possible exemptions from the ban will also only be possible for those applications that are now named accordingly.
