To date, the EU has planned that, from 2035, only battery and fuel cell electric cars can be registered. Playing off different technologies against each other and focusing on just a few drive technologies is not enough: a technology-neutral approach is needed to achieve the climate targets and a successful, socially acceptable and economically viable transformation.
The de facto ban on combustion engines, which must be a versatile and versatile component of a sustainable energy and mobility strategy, ultimately harms the climate. Combustion engines powered by renewable fuels can already make a decisive contribution to the climate neutrality of the transport sector. This is why the VDMA has now issued a position paper on the revision of CO2 fleet limits for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.
